New Foal

There was one upside of this weekend....We had a new addition at the farm. This foal was born about two minutes before I took the pictures. She is out of two world champions and the mare in the picture is Chime (not her biological mother--she was an embryo transfer baby.)

That is so cool! I would love to see a baby horse be born! Did you get to help birth it? This is a weird question, but do horses moan and make noises during labor? sorry if that was a stupid question...

That definitely isn't the weirdest question I've gotten about growing up with a horse vet. Mares moan a little and they curl their lips in pain. As for helping, we leave the mares alone unless something is going wrong. We have a camera set up in the stall so we can watch the whole thing on the any TV in the house. I call it the all horse network. We usually don't go out to the barn until just before she gives birth. I'm way more squeamish than I should be, so I don't really like helping.
